How We Met
It all started in the Fall of 2009. Renel was a sophomore, and Verola was just starting as a Freshman at UMass-Dartmouth. The first time they met was at HASA, the Haitian-American Student Association Club; it was there Renel knew he had to get to know Verola. Due to family obligations, Renel had to leave UMD full-time. However, he stayed connected to campus life by DJing UMD events. This is where Verola, also known as Vee, starts to notice Renel. She always wanted to be at any party he was DJing because it was guaranteed to be a great time!
Between 2013 and 2021, Verola and Renel pursued different career options while dealing with life's obstacles. Verola went on to finish her undergrad degree and then pursued her Master's in Education. After working for a few years as a student teacher in Boston, in 2017 Verola made the bold decision to move to Washington DC to teach. During her time in DC, she enjoyed meeting new people, traveling, and spending time with family. Renel had also just graduated from Mass Bay in 2013 and started his career coaching Football at his old high school, Brighton High. Upon getting a coaching job, he landed a job as Family Liaison in Boston Public Schools. Throughout the years he spent working with the youth in Boston. Also, he traveled to many beautiful places, such as Colombia, Trinidad, Haiti, Canada, and many states and major cities across the United States. Despite the distance, they remained connected through social media.
Our love story really started in 2022. One day, Vee’s cousin Jay mentions to her that he works with a friend who could be a good match for her. Little did she know that friend just happened to be an old college acquaintance, Renel. They reconnected again online and later he invited her to his Christmas Party. It was there the two exchanged numbers. With Vee off to DC soon, he quickly secured two dates with her. Renel and Vee were able to talk and connect on core values and life goals.
Meanwhile, Renel remained determined to keep her in his life because he knew she was the one. Renel continued to pursue Vee. They continued to communicate and get to know one another. After six months of talking and FaceTime, Renel decided to fly to DC and officially asked Vee to be his girlfriend, and she happily said yes. The romance was more of a slow burn. The long-distance relationship allowed them to explore each other emotionally and spiritually while leaving room for personal development. They were each other's safe spaces, which led them to open up and be vulnerable. After a year of long-distance dating, Renel flew down to DC again, and on their anniversary, he asked her to be his wife. Once again, SHE SAID YES!
